On day four of the 2016 USA Olympic Swimming Trials two of the United States’ most well recognized swimmers earned their Olympic berths. Michael Phelps qualified for a historic fifth Games in the 200 butterfly while Missy Franklin finished second in the 200 freestyle.
Maya DiRado qualified in a second event while Melanie Margalis became a first time Olympian. Tom Shields also finished behind Phelps for a spot on the team. The night also decided the women’s 4×200 freestyle relay.
