ASU Picks Up TopRanked Tennessee Star Erica Laning

Tennessee star Erica Laning announced today via her Instagram account that she has given her verbal commitment to swim for ASU as an incoming freshman for the 2017-18 season. Laning currently sits as the top-ranked swimmer in the state of Tennessee for her class and is ranked 32nd nation-wide according to collegeswimming.com. 

At this past year’s Tennessee State Championships Laning claimed wins in both the 200 (1:46.36) and 500 (4:42.79) freestyles. Laning’s finish in the 500 free overturned the previous state record of 4:44.00.

While Laning typically swims the mid-distance to distance freestyle events, the young star has also been known to dabble in the longer distance stroke events, most notably the 200 back and 200 fly.
