Adam Peatys Hometown Throws Him A Parade

Eight weeks after winning Olympic gold in the men’s 100 breast in Rio, Adam Peaty will be formally welcomed home Saturday when the town of Uttoxeter throws him a street parade.

Beginning at 11 a.m. local time, Peaty will ride in an open-top bus to celebrate his astounding performance in Brazil.

According to the official British Swimming press release, Peaty plans to “thank fans for all the support given over the last few years and in particular during the Olympics. Adam is looking to forward to meeting as many people as possible as he travels around his Staffordshire hometown and joined by his family and friends.”

Peaty arrived in Rio as already the only man in history under 57 in the men’s 100 breast, but he put on a dominant show through the three rounds of that event. He set a world record in his very first Olympic swim with a 57.55 in prelims, nearly toppled that with a 57.62 in the semifinals and then jumped to an incredible 57.13 in the final to win gold by more than a second and a half.
