Anton Chupkov Well Ahead in 200 Breaststroke Prelims

In this morning’s men’s 200 breaststroke Russia’s Anton Chupkov finished over a half second ahead of the field with a 2:07.93.

Yashuri Koseki of Japan touched in a 2:08.61 to take the second seed into semifinals. Great Britain’s Andrew Willis secured third in 2:08.92.

Russia’s Ilya Khomenko will be the fourth seed with his 2:08.94 and Marco Koch of Germany swam a 2:08.98. Dmitriy Balandin of Kazakhstan will be sixth tonight with his 2:09.00. He will be followed by Kevin Cordes of the United States with a 2:09.30. Japan’s Ippei Watanbe clocked a 2:09.63.

With a new Chinese National record in tow, Feilian Mao will head to semifinals in the ninth spot after posting a 2:09.80, ahead of the USA’s Josh Prenot in 2:09.91.
