Australian Men Post Promising 400 Freestyle Relay 4 Seconds Faster Than Kazan

James Roberts, Kyle Chalmers, James Magnussen, and Cameron McEvoy posted a 3:12.26 in the 400 freestyle relay, tonight at the 2016 Australian Championships. The men split 48.63, 48.24, 48.17, and 47.22.

That time would have finished third at the 2015 Fina World Championships in Kazan last year. This swim is a four second improvement for the Australians who finished 13th in Kazan last year with a 3:16.34 and did not make it out of prelims.

Chalmers is the only swimmer from that prelims relay to race again tonight. He was actually faster in Kazan when his 47.92 was the fastest relay split by nearly a second. Tonight he only posted a 48.24, but the rest of the relay was significantly faster.
