Close 500 Highlights Ivy League Prelims

The Men’s Ivy Swimming and Diving Championships kicked off Thursday at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center at Brown University with three preliminary races: the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley and 50-yard freestyle.

Three swimmers were within four-tenths of a second of each other in the 500-yard freestyle heats. Pennsylvania’s Chris Swanson posted the top time of the morning, touching in 4:20.06. The 21-year old set the meet record last year with a time of 4:17.53. Yale swimmers finished second and third. Brian Hogan touched in 4:20.34 and Kei Hyogo was third with a time of 4:20.34.

Pennsylvania’s Mark Andrew secured a spot in lane four for tonight’s finals. He posted a time of 1:45.15. Princeton’s Teo D’Alessandro was second in 1:45.27 and his teammate Marco Bove was third with a time of 1:45.76.
