Conor Dwyer Throws First Pitch At Cubs v Cards Game

Two-time Olympian Conor Dwyer joined the Chicago Cubs this afternoon at Wrigley Field to throw the first pitch of their game versus the St. Louis Cardinals.

Dwyer, who holds a unique connection to the Chicago Cubs, is no stranger to the pitchers mound having thrown out the first pitch at two previous games in the past four years, as well as leading the seventh inning stretch with Cullen Jones at the Cubs v. Reds game in June 2015.

His unique connection to the Chicago Cubs is courtesy of his grandfather, Jim Dowdle, who helped run the club while he was an executive VP at Tribune Co., the owners of the team before the Ricketts family purchased it. Most notably, Dowdle is credited with the hiring of the famous announcer Harry Caray who was well known for singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the seventh-inning stretch–a tradition that the Chicago Cubs continue to this day.

The Chicago Cubs currently boasts a record of 96-55 for the 2016 season and have a spot in the playoffs.
