Douglas Eramus Dominates 50 Fly on Morning Three of African Champs

On the third morning of action at the 2016 African Championships only two of the day’s eight events were contested. The other events do not have more than eight swimmers entered and do not require a preliminary race.

In the men’s 100 freestyle Egypt’s Ihab Salem Salem led the way with a 51.65. South Africa’s Calvyn Justus stopped the clock in 52.00 this morning, only .01 faster than Namibia’s Alexander Skinner who touched in 52.01. It was also a tight finish between the fourth and fifth seeds. Algeria’s Oussama Sahnoune, the meet’s top seed, posted a 52.50 to South Africa’s Myles Brown in 52.56.

In the only other events of the morning, the men’s 50 butterfly, there was a three second range among the eight finalists. Douglas Eramus was the quickest this morning. The South African was well ahead with a 24.27. Egypt’s Hassan Yasser touched in 25.07 for tonight’s second seed. Alard Basson of South African took the third spot with a 25.15.
