The 2016 Illinois Boys High School State Championships concluded yesterday with the Lyons taking home the state title with a total of 146 points. Naperville C took home second with 122 points, while Hinsdale Central was a close third with 117 points.
Hinsdale Central kickstarted the meet with a battle for first in the 200 medley relay with Lyons. Craig Smith (23.59), Billy Leader (26.16), Franco Reyes (21.55), and Tommy Gruchala (21.09) posted a combined time of 1:32.39 over Lyons’ final time of 1:32.81.
Dylan Boyd of Lake Forest neared the pool record of 1:37.34 in the 200 free with a time of 1:37.67. Notre Dame’s Colton Paulson finished second with a time of 1:39.78, while third went to Chris Kearney of Loyola Academy (1:41.03).
