The 2016 Colorado Girls 5A and 4A High School State Championships began today with fast swims abounding from both divisions.
Fairview’s Brittney Beetcher clocked a 1:52.09 to claim the top seed in the 200 free for tomorrow’s finals. Regis Jesuit’s Lindsay Painton took second in prelims with a 1:53.28, while Pomona’s Zarena Brown was third with a 1:53.45.
Beetcher continued her middle-distance prowess with a 4:58.06 finish in the 500 free.
Bailey Kovac of Fossil Ridge shaved 2.8 seconds off her entry time of 2:07.55 to finish first in prelims with a 2:04.75. Fairview’s Sandra Freeman grabbed second with a 2:05.97, while Delaney Smith of Arapahoe took third with a 2:06.57.
