Fossil Ridge Cheyenne Mountain Win Colorado HS Boys State Championships

Saturday at the Colorado high school state championships both title winning teams did so for the second year in a row.

Fossil Ridge won one relay and one individual event on their way to the team’s second consecutive state title. The boys scored 331.5 points while runner up Regis Jesuit registered 252 points. Kris Malinin, Shamzi Alkaff, Mason Fine, and Craig Heimark combined for a 1:24.55 in the 200 freestyle relay.

Danny Kovac claimed the 100 backstroke title in 49.69. In that event, Gabriele Sassia of Highland’s Ranch finished in 50.15 and Ty Coen of Regis Jesuit was third with a 51.61. Sasia went on to win the 100 butterfly in 49.32, ahead of Regis Jesuit’s Ty Coen and Fossil Ridge’s Sam Ybarra (50.69).

Regis Jesuit also won one relay and one individual event on the way to their runner up finish. Coen, Elijah Warren, Simon Barshay, and Alexander Stepman clocked a 1:31.88 to win the 200 medley relay. Warren topped the 100 breaststroke in 54.82. Greeley West’s Brody Lewis finished in 56.91, and Andrew Weiss of Rampart touched third in 57.13.
