Georgia High School State Championships Kick Off With Diving Finals

The Georgia High School State Championships kicked off with diving finals on day one of the three-day meet in Atlanta.

In the 5A division, the competition was intense with the top three divers scoring more than 500 points a piece. Grant Summers of St. Pius, dominated his competition, winning the state title with a total of 552.75 points. Pace’s Owen Monicino captured second place with 515.15 points, while Westminster’s Charlie Green took home third with 502.10 points.

On the women’s side, Wesleyan proved to be a powerful force with both a first and third place finish.  Junior Abby Gardner won the title with 527.8 points.  Ellie Crump from Marist won the silver with 514.45 points, Gardner’s teammate. Kate McCahan secured third with 477.95 points.

Westminster dominated the boys side of diving to give the squad 51 points going into swimming.  St. Pius X held 24 points after diving for second.  Marist led Wesleyan, 55-53, after girls diving heading into the swimming portion of the meet.
