Grant Hackett Admitted to Hospital With Uvulitis

Less than a week after an in flight altercation, Grant Hackett has admitted himself to the hospital, according to the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Hackett was admitted to Pindara Private Hospital with uvulitis, a condition he has reportedly suffered from since before the Olympic Trials. Uvulitis is “a severe swelling of the uvula tissue that hangs from the back of the throat,” according to the Bulletin.

“I don’t know if the two things are related but he hasn’t had a great week so far, so I really hope that he gets well,” said Swimming Australia head coach Jacco Verhaeren.

Roger Halliwell, a doctor quoted by the news organization said that the 35 year old is likely in significant pain, and may have negatively impacted his performances last week, when he fell short of making the 2016 Olympic team.
