IOC Takes Provisional Measures in Response to McLaren Report

Yesterday’s McLaren Report confirmed systematic Russian doping which provoked responses from athletes and organizations worldwide. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued a statement yesterday, and scheduled a conference call for today to plan “provisional measures and sanctions.”

The IOC’s latest statement, published this morning, reports on initial “disciplinary action” and “provisional measures.” The statement has seven points.

A Disciplinary Commission has been appointed. The IOC says that the report must be studied and legal options must be considered before deciding to ban all Russian athletes.

Among the provisional measures already taken, the IOC will not be organizing events or meetings in Russia and will not give accreditation to Russian Ministry of Sport officials.
