Giovanni Izzo has announced his verbal commitment to join the NC State Wolfpack. The Italian sprinter will make an immediate impact in a quickly rising program and a deep sprint group.
Izzo has lifetime best times of 22.09 and 49.53 in the long course 50 and 100 freestyles. While not all swimmers make the same transition to short course yards, those times convert to 19.21 and 43.23.
At the 2016 ACC Championships, that converted 50 freestyle time would have finished third, only behind NC State Olympians Ryan Held and Simonas Bilis. At the 2016 NCAA Championships, Izzo would have tied for 11th, bringing in valuable points for the Wolfpack squad that finished fourth.
In the 100, Izzo would have been seventh in the conference in an event where NC State took four of the top five spots.
