Jeremy Stravius Shoots to 3rd in World in 100 Fly

Jeremy Stravius clinched another Olympic swim with a 51.66 in the men’s 100-meter fly at the 2016 French Open Championships.

That swim shot him to third in the world behind only Konrad Czerniak (51.31) and Laszlo Cseh (51.40).  Stravius already won the 100 free (47.97) and 200 free (1:46.18) earlier this week.

Mehdy Metella also claimed a spot on the Olympic roster in the event, according to the FFN, with a second-place 51.84.  That swim put him fourth in the world behind Stravius.  Michael Phelps (51.94) and Li Zhuhao (51.97) are the only other swimmers under 52 seconds.  Joeri Verlinden placed third in 52.57.

Camille Gheorghiu raced her way to a spot on the French Olympic team in the women’s 200-meter back with a 2:12.14. The French Swimming Federation confirmed the berth on Twitter shortly after the race.  Fantine Lesaffre placed second in 2:14.01 with Pauline Mahieu earning third in 2:14.97.
