Kansas Drops to Florida International and NC State in TriMeet

By Sarah Lloyd, Swimming World College Intern

The Kansas Jayhawks opened their winter competition season on Friday January 8 in Miami, Florida as part of their winter training camp. The women competed hard against Florida International and No. 13 NC State, but ultimately fell short on both sides.

Kansas was carried by four second-place finishes, two from senior captain Bryce Hinde in the 100 breast (1:05.01) and the 200 breast (2:21.00). Freshman Haley Bishop and sophomore Madison Straight also added a runner-up finish a piece in the 100 fly (55.81) and 400 IM (4:24.51) respectively. Bishop was just six hundredths of second behind NC State’s Yurie Nakano.

Some help came from junior diver Graylyn Jones, who was third on the one-meter board (250.85) and fourth on the three-meter board (226.45), but in the end, Florida International and NC State proved too much for the Jayhawks.
