Kevin Cordes Leads Way into 200 Breaststroke Semifinals

Kevin Cordes earned his place in Rio in the 100 breaststroke two nights ago and was back in today’s 200 breaststroke. Cordes swam on world record pace through the 150 meter mark and topped prelims with a 2:08.54. That is the sixth best time in the world this year.

Will Licon was out quickly and won the first circle seeded heat in 2:09.43. That time is now the tenth fastest in the world this year. Nic Fink was also strong with a 2:10.10, just off his season’s best 2:09.89.

Cal’s Josh Prenot was a World University Games gold medalist last summer. He swam a superb final 50 for a final time of 2:10.68 and the fourth spot.

Andrew Wilson charged to the lead in the first half of the second circle seed. He touched in 2:11.27 for fifth.
