Lineups for Mens 800 Free Relay Final Out Michael Phelps Anchoring US Team

One hour before the fourth night of finals at the Olympic Games, the lineups for the men’s 800 free relay final were submitted, and the full start list was released a short time later. The Americans, seeded second but favored to win their fourth-straight gold in this relay, will go with a team of Conor Dwyer, Townley Haas, Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps.

Dwyer (3rd) and Haas (5th) each swam in the 200 free final last night, while Lochte earned a spot on this relay for the 13th straight year with a solid split in this afternoon’s prelims. Then there’s Phelps, who will anchor just more than an hour after he competes in the 200 fly final, going for a third gold medal in that event after previously winning in 2004 and 2008 and taking silver in 2012.

The top-seeded British will be going with Stephen Milne, Duncan Scott, Dan Wallace and James Guy. Guy, the reigning World Champion in the 200 free and fourth-place finisher in the event last night, replaces prelims swimmer Robbie Renwick.

Russia’s lineup includes Danila Izotov, Aleksandr Krasnykh, Nikita Lobintsev and Mikhail Dovgalyuk, while Japan leads off with Kosuke Hagino and Paul Biedermann anchors for Germany.
