Michael Andrew Wins Two on Night Three of Columbia Sectionals

By Caitlin Daday, Swimming World College Intern

On the third night of Columbia Speedo Sectionals, 16 year old Michael Andrew made his first appearances of the meet, sweeping both the 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. In his first swim, the 100 breaststroke, the National Age Group record holder obliterated the field, winning by four seconds in a time of 1:00.19. His next closest competitor was Rockford’s Phillip Willet, who came in at 1:04.01. Third behind him was Missouri State’s Nicholas Thenissen in 1:04.38.

Andrew’s second win of the night did not come as easily. In the 100 backstroke he was challenged by Missouri State’s Paul Le. Le was ahead at halfway, but Andrew was still able to get the win. Andrew finished in 55.28, while Le was 55.67. Sean Feher out of Springfield Aquatics was third in 57.09.
