Future Arizona State assistant coach Michael Phelps and training partner Allison Schmitt are two headliners who will compete in exhibition races that will take place as part of the Arizona State vs. Arizona dual meet in a week.
Slated for February g at 1 p.m. in Tempe, Ariz., Arizona State head coach Bob Bowman will be providing exhibition race opportunities for Phelps, Schmitt, local Olympians, local Olympic hopefuls as well as potentially some of Arizona’s post-grad swimmers as well.
This isn’t the first time Bowman and Phelps have used this tactic to add some spice to a dual meet. Â The two previously had Phelps engage in exhibition swims during dual meets while the duo were in Ann Arbor, Mich., as part of Club Wolverine and the Michigan Wolverines.
This time, however, there likely won’t be as much consternation from their opponent as previously had occurred when Phelps swam exhibitions against Northwestern and Indiana on Jan. 21 and Jan. 22, 2005.
