NCAA Champion and Olympic Medalist Brittany MacLean Retires

Three-time NCAA champion and Olympic bronze medalist Brittany MacLean has announced her retirement. The Toronto, Canada, native completed her NCAA eligibility at the University of Georgia this year and then swam in her second Olympic Games, where won her first medal.

MacLean was named NCAA Swimmer of the Year in 2014 after winning both the 500 free and 1650 free national titles and leading the Bulldogs to their second-straight team title. She battled injuries during a tough junior season but rebounded to win the 200 free at NCAAs this past year.

She set a pair of Canadian records in the 200 and 400 free at Canada’s Olympic Trials in April and then concluded her career in Rio. She finished fifth in the 400 free and then fought through illness to help Canada win a bronze in the 800 free relay.
