Brazilian authorities have begun investigating possible corruption at the Olympic venues in Rio de Janeiro according to a report in Reuters. The possible corruption includes all the venues and services that were financed with federal funds.
Originally the federal investigations were focused on “legacy modernization projects” that weren’t tied to the Games directly, but the newest probe is including Olympic Park and the Deodoro area where many of the Olympic venues are to be located.
Leandro Mitidieri, the federal prosecutor, explained to Reuters that they aren’t just looking at the physical buildings, but also the contracts for services, security, and how federal funds have been used.
The investigations do little to build confidence in Brazil as the Games rapidly approach.
