Michael Phelps won the men’s 200 fly en route to qualifying for his fifth Olympic Games, the first American male swimmer in history to do so.
The 22-time Olympic medalist led the race from start to finish, stopping the clock in 1:54.84. His time is the sixth-fastest this year.
Tom Shields finished second in the event in 1:55.81 to earn his first Olympic berth. Phelps said he’s excited to race and train with him.
