Swimmer Ibrahim Al Hussein Named Winner of Whang Youn Dai Achievement Award

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) revealed today their winners for the Whang Youn Dai Achievement Award at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. The Award began at the 1988 Seoul Paralympic Games and is presented to two athletes (one male, one female) at each Paralympic Games who best exemplify the spirit of the Games and of Paralympic values.

At the 2016 Rio Games a total of 17 countries nominated 21 athletes for the Whang Youn Dai Achievement Award. The IPC then narrowed the field down to six athletes:

An independent panel of judges then chose the final two winners to be Ibrahim Al Hussein, representing the sport of swimming, and Tatyanna McFadden, representing the sport of Athletics.

The mission of the Whang Youn Dai Achievement Award “is to enhance the will of people with impairments to overcome their adversities through the pursuit of excellence in sports and through the Paralympic Games.”
