Swimming World continues its “Lessons With the Legends,†a series in which top coaches share secrets of their success, in the June issue with a feature on George Haines, a seminal influence on American swimming.
Haines coached a total of 53 Olympians who accumulated a total of 44 gold, 14 silver, and 10 bronze medals. Haines was named ASCA Coach of the Year in 1964, 1966, 1967, and 1972. In addition he is a member of the ASCA, ISHOF, Bay Area Sports and Stanford University Sports Halls of Fame.
