“Thank you judges, thank you divers, and thank you table help!” The familiar phrase spoken by all announcers at the end of each diving competition. Â There should be an amendment to the script including a thank you to all parent volunteers.
In order to run a smooth meet, it takes tremendous cooperation from everyone on deck. The unspoken thank you deserves to be brought to light. All of the volunteers, whether they are the parents or simply fans of the sport, deserve a big thank you!
From set-up to tear-down, to organizing the snack bar, hosting meets is not a one-person job. It’s important we don’t take for granted everything that goes on behind the scenes into organizing and successfully pulling off a well-run meet. From filling buckets of water to tie down a tent so they don’t fly in the pool on a windy day, to covering the pool deck in so many tents for shade (one may believe they are at a flea market), it’s all done to help the judges/coaches, divers, and table help.
