In the video series introducing the 2016 US Olympic Team, Blake Pieroni talked about his surprise over making the team on the 400 freestyle relay. The University of Indiana swimmer thought his best chance was in the 200 freestyle, but bounced back from a difficult semifinal performance in that event, to post three lifetime best times in the 100.

Pieroni reflected on how helpful his experience on the Junior National team was to making the Olympic squad. Less than two weeks out from the Games, the first time Olympian is still in disbelief at times.

At the 2015 US National Championships, he finished third in the 200 freestyle. The now 20 year old did have long course 100 freestyle success when he won silver at the 2014 Junior PanPacs.
