Maya DiRado will make her Olympic debut in three events. She won the 200 IM, 400 IM, and the 200 backstroke at Olympic Trials.Â
In the video series introducing the 2016 USA Olympic team, the Stanford graduate described her early beginnings in the sport as a self proclaimed “swim nerd.”
She also recalled the inspirational experience of watching Misty Hyman win Olympic gold on television and then watching Hyman’s collegiate finale in person, and being given her idol’s cap.
DiRado heads to Rio with the third best 200 and fifth best 400 IMs in the world this year. She is ranked fourth in the 200 backstroke, making her a real medal threat in all three of her events.
