Video Interview Melanie Margalis Secures Her Spot for Rio

Melanie Margalis earned her first individual event for Rio by finishing second in the women’s 200 IM. She stopped the clock in 2:10.11, half a second behind winner Maya DiRado.

This is a new personal best for the first-time Olympian who beat 2012 bronze medalist Caitlin Leverenz by .05. Her race came shortly after finishing sixth in the 200 free to qualify as a member of the 4×200 fee relay.

She talked to the media after her race about her mindset during a tough double and how she is the fifth Georgia Bulldog to qualify for Rio.
