Adam Peaty Among Sundays Mare NostrumBarcelona Meet Record Setters

Adam Peaty set the first meet record of the afternoon with a 26.68 in his 50 breaststroke. He stopped the clock in 26.68. Only he has been faster this year, with a 26.66 in London last month. Brazilian teammates Felipe Franca da Silva and Luiz Gomes Jr finished next in 26.93 and 27.21.

Sarah Sjostrom posted a 25.27 second 50 butterfly on her way to the top of the podium and her own meet record. Canadians Katerine Savard and Penelope Oleksiak tied for second in 26.10. Sjostrom was on top of the podium again in the women’s 100 freestyle with a 53.96. Teenagers Rikako Ikee of Japan (54.15) and Oleksiak (54.36) rounded out that podium.

Another meet record fell in the men’s 50 freestyle. Andriy Govorov of Ukraine finished in 21.61. Benjamin Proud followed him under the 22 second barrrier with a 21.85. Italo Duarte finished third in 22.40.

James Guy recorded a 200 freestyle meet record in 1:46.91. Chad le Clos clocked a 1:47.11 for second and Kosuke Hagino earned third in 1:47.56.
