The 2016 Kentucky High School State Championships proved to be an exciting event with the women of Sacred Heart Academy dominating the competition to take the state title with a total of 435 points. Notre Dame Academy finished second with 268, while Christian Academy Louisville was third with 218.
The meet started with a new national independent high school record in the 200 medley relay by Sacred Heart Academy. The relay team of Tonner DeBeer (25.76), Kennedy Lohman (27.97), Asia Seidt (24.07), and Brooke Bauer (22.81) posted a time of 1:40.61 to lower the former record of 1:40.73 set by Carondelet in 2011.
The records continued falling in the 200 free with Brooke Forde of Sacred Heart Academy lowering Sophie Skinner’s 2015 record of 1:47.61 by close to a second. Forde stopped the clock at a 1:46.76. Skinner finished second with a time of 1:48.15.
