Chad Le Clos Cracks Worlds Top 5 in 200 Fly at Mare Nostrum

There were a number of impressive swims at the first of two nights of the Monaco stop of the Mare Nostrum.

Chad Le Clos of South Africa recorded the world’s fifth fastest 200 butterfly with a 1:54.80. Hungary’s Tamas Kenderesi swam the sixth best time with a 1:55.11, just off his own fourth 1:54.79. Evgeny Koptelov was third in 1:57.88.

Katinka Hosszu raced to a win in the 400 IM this evening with a 4:34.14. In just the past two weeks, she also won that event at European Championships and the Romanian International. That is the fifth fastest time in the world this year, in an event where Hosszu already owns the fastest mark. Jordis Steinegger of Austria was second in 4:49.50 and third went to France’s Lisa Pou in 5:01.68.

Hosszu came back for another victory in the 200 backstroke, stopping the clock in 2:09.58. Second went to Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe in 2:10.97. Iceland’s Eyglo Oks Gustafsdottir was third in 2:13.80.
