Emily Seebohm Breaks 8 Year Old 100 Back Meet Record in Santa Clara

The 2015 World Champion, and current world leader, Emily Seebohm turned in a 59.26 to take the top seed in the 100 backstroke at this morning’s Arena Pro Swim Series Santa Clara. That time was less than a half second off her top ranked 58.73 and set a new meet record. Natalie Coughlin held the old mark of 59.44, swum in 2008.

Maya DiRado was the second fastest prelims swimmer in 1:00.51 and Rachel Bootsma touched third in 1:01.90. Hilary Caldwell and Ally Howe qualified fourth and fifith in 1:02.00 and 1:02.43. Madison White finished sixth with a 1:02.91.

Catherine Ladd (1:04.23), Gianna Garcia (1:04.29), and Marie-Pier Couillard (1:04.30) also qualified for tonight’s A final.
