Gleb Ionichev will join the Tennessee Volunteers this fall. The future Vol is coming to the United States from Israel.
He will be a huge boom to the program, as his sprint prowess will be a help on relays. Swimming in Israel, his best times are in long course meters. Ionichev has posted a 22.79 50 freestyle and a 50.63 in the 100 freestyle. Those times convert to a 19.83 and a 44.20 in yards.
He also considers his 50 butterfly to be one of his best events. He has posted a 24.89 in the long course meters version of this event. That would stand at a 21.78 in the NCAA’s short course yards format.
Ionichev told Swimming World he believes, “You are one swim away from a good mood,” an attitude that will certainly be welcome in Knoxville this fall, and beyond.
