Katerine Savard Drops Penny Oleksiaks 50 Fly Canadian Record by 01

While all eyes seem to be on Omaha, there is still fast swimming happening worldwide as other swimmers narrow their focus into the Olympic Games. A prelims swim in Canada this morning turned heads.

Katerine Savard broke the Canadian record in the women’s 50 butterfly this morning. Swimming in prelims at the Quebec Cup in Montreal she stopped the clock in 25.92, just .01 faster than the old record.

Two weeks ago at the Mare Nostrum Canet stop Penny Oleksiak clocked a 25.93. The 15 year old recorded a 25.97 at the Arena Pro Swim Series Charlotte in May. Oleksiak’s time was also the World Junior record.

Before Oleksiak claimed and lowered the record, it belonged to Savard who clocked a 26.05 at the 2013 World University Games.
