Marcela Acosta Sets Salvadorian Record in 1500 Free

El Salvador’s Marcelo Acosta set a national record with a win in the men’s 1500-meter free at the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series Orlando.

Acosta hit the wall in a time of 15:13.09.  That crushed his previous record of 15:16.26 from the 2015 Pan American Games, and moved him to ninth in the world rankings.

With that FINA A cut, Acosta is the first swimmer from his country to earn a berth in the Olympics.

Club Wolverine’s Connor Jaeger, the third-ranked swimmer in the world with a 15:06.24 from Austin, took second tonight in 15:14.68.
