Matt McHugh Meg Bailey star in Ohio State win over Michigan State

COLUMBUS, OH- Matt McHugh, Lindsey Clary, Liz Li, Brayden Seal, DJ MacDonald and Taylor Vargo from Ohio State each won two events and Meg Bailey won three as the Ohio State Buckeyes beat conference foe Michigan State in a two-day duel meet in Columbus.

McHugh won the 50 free (20.50) and 100 fly (49.18). McHugh was one of the two non-Texas swimmers in the 100 fly A-final at last year’s NCAAs. His teammates Seal and MacDonald were the only other Ohio State male swimmers to win two individual events. Seal won the 1000 free (9:19.78) in a tight race with teammate Jovan Mitrovic (9:19.85). Seal also won the 500 free at 4:32.25. MacDonald won the 100 breast at 55.31 and the 200 at 2:03.77. The Buckeyes men’s team finished first in every single event on the day winning the meet 186-101.

On the women’s side, Buckeye sophomore Liz Li won the 100 back (55.65) and the 100 free (50.21). Sophomore Meg Bailey had one of the most impressive days in the meet. She won the 200 fly at 2:02.49 early in the meet. Later on she won the 100 fly at 55.87 and then won the 200 IM immediately after the break at 2:01.37. Junior Taylor Vargo had another impressive day for the Buckeyes winning both breaststroke events and finished third behind Bailey and Michigan State senior Elizabeth Brown in the 200 IM. Vargo went 1:04.08 to claim the 100 breast and 2:16.30 to take the 200. Junior Lindsey Clary had another good day as she won the 1000 with a 9:58.87 and then finished second in the 200 free right after with a 1:51.57 behind teammate Katy Luchansky. Later on in the meet she went 4:56.14 to win the 500. The Ohio State women also finished first in every single event on the day.
