Michigan Rolls To Victory In The Orange Bowl Swim Classic

The men’s and women’s Michigan teams dominated at the Orange Bowl Swim Classic in Florida. The ninth ranked Wolverine women beat four other teams, racking up 265 points. The sixth ranked Michigan men beat three teams, finishing with 231 points.

The teams competed in a short course meters pool on Jan. 3.

Michigan got off to a hot start, winning the women’s 200-meter medley relay in 1:54.99. The team consisted of Clara Smiddy, Emily Kopas, Zoe Mattingly and Maddy Frost. Air Force won the men’s event. The team of Devon Davis, Michael Barnosky, Steffen Mount and Jordan Dahle posted a time of 1:40.48.

Michigan’s Ryan Gillian set a meet record in the third event of the day: the women’s 400-meter freestyle. The 20-year-old posted a time of 4:15.21, winning by over three seconds.
