Penny Oleksiak Crushes 100 Free Canadian Record With 5thRanked 5331

Penny Oleksiak, just 15, crushed the Canadian record in the women’s 100-meter free at the 2016 Canadian Trials.

Oleksiak unleashed a swift time of 53.31 for the win, clearing the Canadian record of 53.83 set by Chantal Van Landeghem at the 2015 Pan American Games.  Oleksiak also vaulted to fifth in the world rankings with the smoking swim.

Van Landeghem finished second in 53.91, just off her lifetime best, but enough to also clear the FINA A cut of 54.43 for a 100 free swim at the Olympic Games.
