Park Tae Hwan Wins 1500 at Korean Olympic Trials

Meet records fell in all but one event in the first day of the 2016 Dong-A Swimming Competition, the meet serving as the Korean Olympic Trials.

Park Tae Hwan won the men’s 1500 freestyle at the Korean Olympic Trials, despite being ineligible for the Korean Olympic Team. The 26 year old Olympic gold medalist finished in 15:10.95. While far from his own best time of 14:47.38, it was 15 seconds faster than the second place time of 15:25.77. Park’s time stands as a new meet record, and faster than the FINA A cut.

Jungdoo Yang set the Korean National Record and meet record in the men’s 50 freestyle with a winning time of 22.36, faster than his own 22.48. That time still sits outside the world’s top 25, however.

Seo Jin Huang took the women’s 50 freestyle in a new meet record of 25.45.
